Following requests and questions from a visitor of this blog who question how to build a VPN server on windows XP. Actually in a family of versions of Windows starting with Windows XP until windows 7 is almost the same all basically. So is the way, though a bit different but basically the same, for that is why I often force people to understand rather than to memorize let alone to use feelings, because by understanding something as difficult as any question would be solved.

Here is an article how to build a VPN server on windows XP, All in need are (not absolute) 2 NIC (network interface card), one of which will be used for communication between computers that existed as a VPN server and VPN client. The following easy steps:

1. Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Create a New Connection

8. Check "Allow callers to access my local area network" (If it allows a user to access a local area network including shared files / printers / other devices shared) If it does not allow please delete centangnya. Select "Assign TCP / IP addresses automatically using DHCP" If using a DHCP server (need a special program because XP does not provide a DHCP server by default). Select "Specify TCP / IP addresses" range (limit) eg 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.255 then automatically connect the client will get an IP within the range as long as available. Select "Allow calling computer to specify it's own IP address" If a user is connected may change the configuration of the TCP / IP it yourself manually.

9. Klik Next -> Klik Finish

Once the correct configuration of the next classic question must be how do I connect the client with the server? Clients can use an additional program or using the default VPN client provided by Windows.

Why can not I connect? Make sure the username and password are all correct, If you are behind a modem / firewall make sure the correct configuration, use the Port Mapping to direct the path to the computer that should be (just like the article how to make a webserver / CCTV via internet), PPTP standard port is 1723.
